Kite professionals and fans around the world will meet from 6 to 9 November 2014, at the XXVII edition of the International Kite Festival held at the Dunes of Corralejo Natural Park. This Kite Festival began in 1987 thanks to the initiative of a group of amateur kite flyers, who selflessly promoted a meeting that brings together every year audience of tourists and kite enthusiasts. The festival is visited by regional and international kite flyers mostly from the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Spain. They will paint with colours the sky of Corralejo and El Cotillo beach at a festival, that after more than a quarter of a century, has extensive national projection internationally and a significant impact on the media.
The festival is organized by the Department of Tourism of the City of La Oliva and will begin 6th November 2014.
A new feature of this year (2014) is found in the conclusion of an act of protest against oil exploration off the coast of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote authorized by the Ministry of Industry to Repsol.
The mayor of La Oliva, Claudia Morales, and the Councillor for Tourism, Marcelino Umpiérrez, presented the twenty-seventh edition, together with the organizers of the event, and Claudio Jacinto Rodriguez Azzali, who announced that school township will also have an important role during the event.
The program will start on Thursday 6th November on playa de la Concha (El Cotillo), with a display of acrobatic flight and static kites, although the inaugural flight will be one day later on Friday at Playa del Burro next to the great dunes of Corralejo National Park.
